Putting Hartlepool First suggested Boundary changes 2018 The following suggestions are based on observations of the Putting Hartlepool First election agent, comments made at our last meeting and the projected data provided by Hartlepool Borough Council Democratic services. It also takes into account the views by residents across the town on social media. The principle aim is to balance the wards by demography and number of electors in each area. It is believed that, using historical knowledge and projected figures provides for reasonable changes in the ward boundaries in Hartlepool. As you can see from the breakdown below, our main change is the proposal of creating a new ward which is distinct to the area of Rossmere. In speaking with residents it was quite clear the residents of each of those areas see them as distinctly different. In addition, we feel removing the Jutland Road are from the Seaton ward also reflected the wishes of residents of both areas. Likewise, changing Greatham back to how it was previously (putting it back with the Fens) reflected the views of many residents canvassed in our consulation. The recommendations for ward councillors for Hartlepool is 36. Therefore the following is based on 12 wards with 3 elected councillors per ward. The areas are based on current voting areas within each of the current 11 wards. Summary of suggested changes. Burn Valley added the Burbank area FE which has more of a connection to the rest of Burn Valley ward than the Headland and Harbour ward. De Bruce stays the same. Fens Change the name to Fens and Greatham and separate from Rossmere as it was in the past. Each have their own identity although some similarities. (IG)Greatham currently Rural West ward has been added as South Fens already have a link through Greatham Parish council. In addition (IF) Wynyard, (IH) Newton Bewley, (II) Brierton and (IJ) Claxton have been added from Rural West. They are all on the borders of the current FensRossmere ward and can easily be amalgamated into the Fens ward. Foggy FurzeArea DA now becomes part of Manor House and area AE is added from the Burn Valley ward. It still contains the same demography but numbers balance better this way. Hart Area EE of Hart becomes part of Rural West as it already borders that ward. Headland and Harbour Loses Burbank area FE but gains area GE from Jesmond again because it shares demography and balances numbers. Jesmond Gains area KA from Victoria with similar demography and balance of numbers. Manor House Loses area HC to Rossmere but gains area DA from Foggy Furze with again similar demography and balance of numbers and currently borders Manor House. Rossmere New ward created but has been a standalone ward in the past. Along with Areas CC, CD, CE, currently in the Fens and Rossmere ward, it gains JE Jutland Road area as it has more in keeping with Rossmere than the current Seaton ward. Also gains areas HC, HF from Manor House with similar demography, balance of numbers and shared boundaries. Rural West Loses area IA to Victoria ward as there are similarities to that ward and connects by a common boundary already. Gains area EE from Hart as a relatively rural area which sits better within the Rural West ward. Seaton Loses area JE Jutland area to Rossmere ward as stated above. Victoria Gains area IA from Rural West as it has similar demography to current Victoria ward and shared boundaries.
