Police in Hartlepool have recovered drugs and arrested two people after early morning drugs raids in the town. Officers from the Hartlepool Community Safety Team were joined by Chief Constable Richard Lewis to execute the warrants at three addresses on Cornwall Street, Dent Street and Johnson Street at around 7.30am today (Friday 16th August). Chief Constable Richard Lewis said We are here today, responding to concerns raised by the local community. It is important that the wider community see that we take action based on their information and it is testament to them that they keep coming forward to let us know about drugs activity in their local area. Drugs and the associated antisocial behaviour blight the lives of residents amongst our local communities and we are here today to continue with the battle against drugs in order to eradicate them from the streets of Hartlepool. A 50yearold man was arrested at a property on Cornwall Street, on suspicion of possession of class B drugs and a 47yearold woman was arrested at a property on Johnson Street, on suspicion of possession with intent to supply class B drugs. Both remain in police custody at this time. A quantity of suspected amphetamine and cannabis were seized at a property on Johnson Street, along with drugs paraphernalia. Suspected cannabis was also recovered at Cornwall Street. A man and woman have now been evicted from a property on Cornwall Street, after police worked alongside the housing association to move them on. Drugs paraphernalia was removed from a property on Dent Street. Anyone who wishes to report drugs activity in their local area can contact Cleveland Police on 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at www.crimestoppersuk.org.
