Cleveland Police have so far found 340 drivers exceeding the speed limit within the first week of the national campaign. The National Police Chiefs Council speed awareness campaign began on Monday 12th August across Cleveland and Durham. Officers will continue with the campaign until Sunday 25th August, with the aim of taking speeding drivers off the roads and reducing the number of serious and fatal collisions. Inspector Jon Curtis, from the Cleveland and Durham Specialist Operations Unit, said The aim of the campaign is to encourage drivers to obey speed limits in order to reduce the risk of people being seriously injured or killed on our roads.
