We have had another surprise donation to our fundraising campaign! The 4,200 donation was made by advisers working with Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen on a report examining the benefits a Free Port could bring to the region. Specialist trade advisers at Vivid Economics are currently supporting the Mayor on pulling together a comprehensive proposal to Government to establish a Free Port in the Tees Valley. The contract to carry out work included a social value clause, meaning the company had to support a local community cause for social good. Mayor Houchen selected the Battery Museum to receive the donation. Ben Houchen, Tees Valley Mayor, said When I was at the museum last month, I was truly amazed by what I saw and by the dedication of everyone involved running and supporting the Battery museum. The museum is a piece of national history, the only First World War battlefield on UK soil and the site of the first soldiers to die on British soil in the Great War. Im thrilled that the advisers we are working with to bring a Free Port to the region have agreed to make this donation, meaning the museum can look forward to a bright future. Over the coming weeks and months Enjoy Tees Valley, our new tourism service, will be making a big push to promote the museum to local residents and visitors so that even more people can discover this hidden gem. How lucky are we?!
