Is the Council really doing ALL it can to reduce its costs? We would hope so, but based on this, can we be really sure? I remember a conversation with SAB, around a similar time last year, he stated that we should provide ideas on how the Council can cut costs instead of simply voting against the Council Tax rise. I promptly (at the next meeting) provided him with about 300 pages of how different authorities and organisations had cut costs and moved forward. This time I provided year on year costcutting, that would not affect frontline services and would have relatively no effect on the public. In fact, the public wouldnt have even known about it. Once again it looks likes Councillors are looking out for themselves! When they should be trying to improve the relations between the Council and the public, anything that a Councillor can do to make amends should be done, and done immediately! As for Members enjoying a tipple, well we all know the ones who will probably overindulge, but any spend on Alcohol by a public authority simply cannot be justified at all. Workers arent allowed to spend money on Alcohol, therefore it shouldnt be provided to Councillors either! We are supposed to set the trend, not receive special treatment. But yet again, when CAB could actually fix one element, he refuses too. Tonight, I voted against the rise in Council Tax for April 20192020.... I absolutely understand the Councils financial plight. I absolutely understand the pressures being put on the Council, and I absolutely understand the predicament, not increasing Council Tax would put on the Authority. However.... When easy savings are put down for review, instead of being implemented immediately or noted for implementation I simply have to ask the question, what else are we not cutting, what else are we simply reviewing when we could be implementing it now!! I even asked the Leader to ban Alcohol for members and he refused! Beers are on him.....sorry I mean Council Tax Payers!
